The npower Wigan Warriors Community Blitz returned for its second year this week, as 120 players, officials and staff volunteered 15 hours of their time to spread some community spirit in time for Christmas.
The 20+ Wigan Warriors players, coaches and staff stayed with us until 3am and spent over three hours with The Brick’s volunteers and clients, taking time out to not only get stuck in to a number of projects at The Brick but to also really get under the skin of everything that the Brick does in the community, to understand how we help people to rebuild their lives.
The team cooked chilli for our 16 clients at the Wigan (A Bed Every Night) Homeless shelter and brought us a Christmas Tree which they decorated beautifully. They then moved on to the Brick Works where the painted the bathrooms and cleared the workshops and even bought some goodies for themselves from the Brick Works shop.
Our Wigan Warriors volunteers, who included players, Dan Sarginson, Zak Hardaker, Jarrod Sammut and Head Coach Adrian Lam, stopped by to listen to the experiences and stories of our clients staying at the night shelter and also donated a bundle of supplies to The Bricks Food bank.
Everyone at The Brick wants to thank Wigan Warriors for their help, their time and we hope to see you all again very soon!
We are always on the look out for volunteers, so if you have time to spare email fiona@thebrick.org.uk
