The Multibank is our newest project established in March 2023, this service will further support people in need across Greater Manchester and The Northwest. Led by The Brick, we supply much-needed non-food items such as toiletries, baby products, cleaning goods, and bedding.
The Brick Multibank builds on the charity’s existing reuse and furniture poverty projects, which rescue high-quality preloved items of furniture and white goods and redistributes them into the hands of those experiencing financial insecurity across Wigan.
With 37% of children and young people in Greater Manchester living in poverty, we know it’s vital that people have access to essential household and hygiene items. However, we also recognise that those living on lower incomes are also struggling to cover the costs of many other expenses, that help to make a house a home such as, blankets, carpet tiles, paint, children’s toys, and everything needed for babies. The Brick’s Multibank will offer all these items in one place.
The Brick Multibank processes donations from Amazon and other supporting businesses from a dedicated 11,000 sq. ft warehouse in Wigan. Amazon helped set-up the Multibank warehouse operations, providing logistics expertise, tech support, and five team members from its fulfilment centre in Greater Manchester. An independent SROI has reported that every £1 invested into The Brick Multibank generates £5.01 in social value.
The Brick is also part of a wider national coalition of 5 charities, working collaboratively to deliver the multibank initiative. Led by Multibanks UK there are now 5 Multibank in total operating across the UK. The Big House in Fife, The Brick Multibank in Greater Manchester, Cwtch Mawr in Swansea, Felix’s Multibank in London and The Junction Multibank in Teeside.
Each charity works in partnership, with one mission to tackle pollution and alleviate the effects of poverty by creating a new, cost effective, solution that sustains both the planet and childhood opportunity.
The Multibanks are a coalition of compassion and there are simple ways you can join us:
- Contribute funds – so that we can increase our efforts to distribute more goods to more families
- Donate surplus goods – this is a pollution solution and a way to avoid landfill. Multibanks are also greenbanks.
- Follow our social media channels and share our stories – Multibanks are a distribution revolution, and our stories of hope need to be shared so that we can build on our existing network of referral partners and ensure more families access the help they need.
