The Brick’s Leigh charity shop is asking local people to get behind its work by shopping, donating and volunteering, simple acts that help support people in the town who are facing poverty, homelessness and hardship.
Based in the heart of Leigh, the shop is full of pre-loved clothing, homeware, books, toys, accessories and one-off finds, with new stock added every day. For shoppers, it is a chance to pick up quality items at affordable prices while choosing a more sustainable way to buy.
But every sale does more than raise money. It helps fund The Brick’s frontline support for people across Leigh, from emergency essentials to longer-term help for those trying to rebuild their lives. Each bag donated helps keep the shop affordable, reduces waste and raises vital funds for local people who need support.
The shop is also looking for more volunteers to join its friendly Leigh team.
Whether someone can give a few hours a week or a couple of days a month, volunteering offers the chance to support the community, build confidence, learn new skills and meet new people. No retail experience is needed, with full training and support provided.
Volunteers are involved in every part of the shop, from welcoming customers and creating displays to sorting donations, pricing stock and helping behind the scenes. Each role helps keep the shop running and strengthens the support The Brick can offer in Leigh.
Anyone interested in finding out more can drop in during The Brick’s volunteer recruitment mornings in August. Rosemary will be available at the shop on Wednesday 12th and Wednesday 19th from 10am to 12pm for an informal chat about the roles available, what volunteering involves and how to get started.
Rosemary Corns, Volunteer Coordinator at The Brick, said: “Our Leigh shop is much more than a place to find a bargain. It is a place where people come together to help their neighbours. Every purchase, donation and hour volunteered makes a real difference to someone locally.
“We are so grateful to everyone who shops with us or donates items, and we would love to welcome more volunteers into the team. You do not need retail experience, just kindness, enthusiasm and a willingness to get stuck in. It is a brilliant way to meet people, learn something new and make a difference close to home.”
A regular volunteer said: “The staff have a great rapport with customers, many of whom are regulars. It is clear that the shop and The Brick provide a much-needed service in Leigh.”
