The Brick is giving 250 Christmas hampers to families this year, thanks to the generosity of the Wigan and Leigh community.
Every year we provide families with a Christmas hamper full of festive food, toys, gifts and more. The families, many experiencing food poverty, are referred to the Brick by Wigan Council and a range of agencies including schools and GP’s
This year, with the knowledge that so many more families are in crisis, due to unemployment, health and mental health issues, resulting from the Coronavirus Pandemic, The Brick made the decision, in September, to try to help more families than ever before. The agreed target was to provide 250 Wigan and Leigh families with a Christmas hamper, 100 more than in previous years.
Louise Green, CEO at The Brick, said: “We made the decision to extend our Christmas hamper campaign and to help an additional 100 families, as by September we were already very aware of the increase of families facing food poverty, as a result of the pandemic. The charity had witnessed a 200% increase in the provision of food parcels from The Brick’s foodbank and we didn’t want any of our local families to go without at Christmas.”
Staff and volunteers from The Brick will be delivering the Christmas hampers to families from 21 to 23 December.
Danielle Grundy, Food Community and Engagement Team Lead, at The Brick said: “All the staff and volunteers at The Brick want to thank the individuals, families, schools and businesses across Wigan and Leigh who have been so incredibly generous, whilst many are facing difficult times themselves.
“We have been inundated with financial donations and donations of food, toys and gifts, so that this year we can provide a Christmas hamper for 250 families across Wigan and Leigh.
“The generosity of our community has shown no limits and the level of donations means that our food bank is now extremely well-stocked too. Thank you to everyone who has supported us and to all of our amazing volunteers, we couldn’t do what we do without you!”[/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_gallery type=”image_grid” images=”8327,8326,8329,8333,8334,8335,8337″][/vc_column][/vc_row]
